Janita Poe is an award-winning journalist with more than two decades experience in her field. She has worked as a senior staff writer and beat reporter for the Chicago Tribune, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and two Florida newspapers.
In 1997 she was one of three writers at the Tribune to win the SPJ Peter Lisagor business journalism award for a series on diversity in the workplace. In 2002 she won the Atlanta Association of Black Journalists (AABJ) print feature-writing award for a piece on HBCUs in the South. She also has won writing and reporting awards from the Central Florida SPJ and the Chicago Association of Black Journalists.
In September 2010, Janita moved to new media when she joined AOL/Huffington Post Media group as the first editor of www.Cascade.Patch.com. Under her leadership, Cascade Patch grew to have the third largest number of UVs among the 42 live Georgia Patch sites in the mid-2011.
